When Benazir Bhutto
returns to Pakistan from London in 2007 after eight years self-imposed exile
during which she spent her time in Dubai and London, she got serious life
threats from Bait Ullah Mehsood that time TTP head. When she arrived on Karachi
airport a flood of people come there to welcome here. A suicide attack was held
in try to assassinate her. Luckily she remained safe but the bombing resulted
in 180 deaths and more than 500 injuries. Most of the dead as well as injured
persons were members of Pakistan Peoples Party who were there to welcome her.
This incident was
known as Saneha Karsaz or Karsaz attack 2007.
On 19 October 2007, one day after the attack, Benazir in the press
conference claim that her security team were unable to prevent her from that
attack. On 23 October she wrote a letter to General Pervez Musharraf in which
she suspected four military officials including Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, Gen.
Hamid Gul, former director of ISI, Ijaz Shah, director general of IB and one
other premier military intelligence of Pakistan. Instead of taking any action
against this Musharaf blamed Al-Qaeda and TTP for this suicide attack.
After that incident
government tried its best that Benazir stop her political struggle specially her
leading of rallies and public speeches claiming that she has life threats but
Benazir refused to obligate govt. order and continue her political activities.
As a result on 27 Dec 2007 while she leading a political rally at Liaqat Bagh
Rawalpindi.

After her death, PPP
won the elections held in January 2008 and make government at the center of Pakistan.
When PPP comes into power they decided to get help from UN for the inquiry of
that assassination. For this PPP government pay 3.5 million dollars to UN for
their support in inquiry. But UN remained fail to provide facts about that
assassination and could not find and provide any proper evidence about the
master mind of that murder. Although it was believed that Fahid Mohammed Ally
Msalam, Al-Qaeda’s Pakistan operation chief, was the mastermind of that
assassination. Fahid Mslam was killed in drone strike in Pakistan on 1 January
2009. But UN could not provide any evidence in this claim. Now after the long
term work and negotiation by Pakistan Commission at UN, UN is ready to payback
2.3 million dollars to Pakistan. UN also submit a request in which they
requested a sorry to Pakistan Ambassador for UN Dr. Maliha Lodhi and promise to
return 2.3 million dollar very soon.
