THE AFRICAN KING & HIS FRIEND

A story is told about a king in Africa who had a close friend that grew he grew up with. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life (positive or negative) by remarking, “This is good, Almighty knows best”

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking one of the guns from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off.

Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, “This is good! Almighty knows best”

To which the king replied, “No, this is not good”” and ordered his soldiers to put his friend in jail.

About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured the king and took him to their village. They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake and bound him to the stake.

As they came near to the set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king was missing a thumb. Being superstitious, they never ate anyone who was less than whole. So after untying the kind, they chased him out of the village.

When the king reached his palace, he was reminded of the event that had taken his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend. He went immediately to the jail to speak with his friend.

“You were right” the king said, “It was good that my thumb was blown off.” And he proceeded to tell his friend all that just happened. “I am very sorry for sending you in jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this.”

“No,” his friend replied, “This is good ... Almighty Knows Best”

“What do you mean, ‘this is good’! How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year?”

The king’s friend replied: “Remember that the Almighty Knows best and if I had NOT been in jail, I would have been with you (on this hunting trip).”

IT COULD BE THAT YOU DISLIKE SOMETHING, WHEN IT IS GOOD FOR YOU; AND IT COULD BE THAT YOU LIKE SOMETHING WHEN IT IS BAD FOR YOU. ALLAH KNOWS AND YOU DO NOT KNOW [2:16]

THE BUTTERFLY

A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared, he sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further.

Then the man decided to help the butterfly, so he took a pair of scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily.

But it had a swollen body and small, shrivelled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time.

Neither happened!

In fact the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shrivelled wings.

It was never able to fly.

What the man in his kindness and haste did not understand was that restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were ALLAH’s way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.

Sometimes, struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If ALLAH allowed us to go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. And we could never fly.

THE PINK RIBBON

A handsome middle aged man walked quietly into the cafe and sat down. Before he ordered, he couldn’t help but notice a group of younger men at the table next to him. It was obvious they were making fun of something about him, and it wasn’t until he remembered he was wearing a small pink ribbon on the lapel of his suit that he became aware of what the joke was all about.

The man brushed off the reaction as ignorance, but the smirks began to get to him. He looked one of the rude men square in the eye, placed his hand beneath the ribbon and asked, quizzically, “This?” With that the men all began to laugh out loud. The man he addressed said, as he fought back with laughter, “Hey sorry man, but we were just commenting on how pretty your little ribbon looks against your blue jacket!”

The middle aged man calmly motioned for the joker to come over to his table, and invited him to sit down. As uncomfortable as he was, the guy obliged, not really sure why. In a soft voice, the middle aged man said, “I wear this ribbon to bring the awareness about breast cancer. I wear it in my mother’s honour.”

“Oh sorry dude. She died of breast cancer?”

“No she didn’t. She’s alive and well, but her breasts nourished me as an infant, and were a soft resting place for my head when I was scared or lonely as a little boy. I’m very grateful for my mother’s breasts and her health.”

“Umm,” the stranger replied, “Yeah.”

“And I wear this ribbon to honour my wife,” the middle aged man went on.

“And she is okay, too?” the other guy asked.

“Oh yes, she is fine. Her breasts have been a great source of loving pleasure for both of us, and with them she nurtured and nourished our beautiful daughter 23 years ago. I am grateful for my wife’s breasts, and for her health.”

“Uh huh. And I guess you wear it to honour your daughter also?”

“No. It is too late to honour my daughter by wearing it now. My daughter died of breast cancer one month ago. She thought she was too young to have breast cancer, so when she accidentally noticed a small lump, she ignored it. She thought that since it wasn’t painful, it must not be anything to worry about.”

Shaken and ashamed, the now sober stranger said, “Oh man, I’m so sorry, mister”.
“So in my daughters memory too, I proudly wear this little ribbon, which allows me the opportunity to enlighten others. Now, go home and talk to your wife and your daughters and your mother and your friends.

And here, the middle added man reached into his pocket and handed the other man a little pink aged ribbon.

The guy looked at it, slowly raised his head and asked, “Can you help me put it on?”

RICH MAN

There lived in a town a very rich man, who was given every comfort and luxury by Allah. He had a servant who was slightly foolish. One day the rich man called him and presented him with a gift , saying: “Keep this in a safe place until you find someone more foolish than yourself. When you do, give it to Him.”

The servant replied: “Very good, Sir!”

After some time, the rich man became very ill. Many doctors treated him but there was no sign of recovery. He finally lost hope and called for his servant and said to Him: “I am leaving now. If I have caused you any grief, please forgive me.”

Servant: “Sir, where are you going?”

Rich Man: “Where everyone has to go.”

Servant: “When wil you return?”

Rich Man: “I am going to a place from where there is no return.”

Servant: “I see…Have you made your preparations for your comfort there, sir?”

Rich Man: “No.”

Servant: “Sir, have you made arangements to safeguard yourself from heat and cold?”

Rich Man: “No.”

Servant: “What have you done about your food and drink, sir?”

RichMan: “Nothing.”

Hearing this, the servant laughed and said: “Sir, this is most surprising. In your temporary home, you have made all sorts of arrangements of joy and comfort; buildings and bungalows, gardens and parks, servants and maids, beautiful cars, shops, factories and all sorts of luxuries, but for your permanent home, you have made no preparations whatsoever.

Now tell me sir! Where will I find someone more foolish than you? Hence I am giving this gift to you.” what's carrying the box of DEEDS that we shall carry to our graves?!

♥ Moral ♥ : We should take time out and review frequently whether our actions are solely for the life of this world or for the eternal life in the hereafter.
